Low-Intensity Tourism in Argentina

Argentina's business association reports low tourist activity during the long weekend. Despite a 48.8% increase in travelers, average spending and stay duration decreased due to economic challenges.

Low-Intensity Tourism in Argentina

The Argentine Confederation of Medium-Sized Enterprises (CAME) described tourist movement during this long weekend as 'low intensity,' a result of the current period and the population's purchasing power. According to the entity's assessment, 1,012,000 people traveled, with an economic impact of 231,084 million pesos. 'The second long weekend of the year was very quiet, with a tourist who prioritized short, getaways and controlled their spending level,' stated the document received by the Argentine News Agency. Spending was concentrated in food, drinks, accommodation, transportation, recreation, and various purchases. Compared to the same period in 2025, the number of travelers increased by 48.8%, an increase explained by the longer schedule and a greater willingness to make trips, albeit of shorter duration, indicated CAME. The average daily spending was 103,793 pesos, representing a 7% drop from the February Carnival holiday and a 1.6% decrease from last year's Memory Day holiday, measured in real prices. The average stay was 2.2 nights, a low figure for a four-day period, due to the rising cost of fuels and because Monday was a non-working day instead of a holiday. This trend was reflected in the fact that 'the average number of nights of stay equaled that of a three-day weekend,' despite a larger number of people traveling. The report highlights the consolidation of an austere travel profile, with a preference for free cultural activities over commercial offers. Likewise, the presence of international tourists in urban centers and tourist poles was recorded, which added dynamism in a context where domestic tourism continues to adapt to current economic conditions.
